1st day in Havana - Sunday Nov 11th

Get up early and go down for breakfast. The food is not very good. This is my first glimpse that I may be a bit hungry in Havana.

I see several others at the breakfast place and wonder if any of them are in my group.

Go downstairs and walk outside. Nothing much is happening. There are a few people around and I wonder if it's always this deserted or only because it's Sunday.

Fly to Havana via Cancun

Fly to Cancun.

No bicycle.

Go to the other terminal to pick up my ticket. It was there!!

Checked into my flight and waited for hours.

Bought one last hamburger before I got on the flight.

Looking for the other American who is going to be on the trip.

Lots of Americans on the flight to Havana. Very surprised.

Land in Havana and go through Customs. It was a little spooky, but made it through.

Pick up our bags . . . no bike. :-(

Meet our contacts who have the big bus we will be travelling on. They drive us to the hotel. It is like 1am in the morning.

As we drive to Havana from the airport the streets are deserted. I wonder if anyone has a car. Where is everyone? It isn't that late yet.

The hotel is clean and has a big marble staircase. The room is nice - not too fancy, but clean. I learn later that the water doesn't come out much and it isn't very warm.

At the hotel, they show us our room and then have a drink and meal in the bar. I just want to go to sleep. I'm exhausted and want to find my bike.
